Genuine deals start a little above €100 outside school holidays. A stopover in Lisbon or Porto adds to the journey time but can cut the price by a third.
Funchal stays the most expensive. Câmara de Lobos, Ponta do Sol and Machico offer far better value fifteen minutes away.
